Bonefishing
About 45 years ago, Captain Chris discovered that there was excellent bonefish fishing here on Bonaire. In the ensuing years, he has mentored virtually everyone (local travel agents, ESPN film crews, and even Salt Water Sportsman writers) from around the world who was even remotely connected to the sport of bonefishing.
Yet somehow Bonaire has managed to remain a truly special kind of secret destination. The southeast of Bonaire offers several square miles of prime bonefish grounds with shallow, crystal clear warm water.
Bonefish fishing here is 100% safe, no sharks, no sea urchins, no stinging jellyfish, no blister worms, no eels, nor anything else to worry about! The hard sandy bottom makes wading very easy. Here on Bonaire, bonefishing is a matter of wading. Always respecting marine rules and regulations.
The average Bonefish weighs between 3 and 6 pounds, although fish weighing 8 to 9 pounds are regularly caught. The Permit range averages between 10 and 20 pounds, with the largest catch ever exceeding 30 pounds!
