Jigging
Jigging is the fishing technique used to fish vertically: a metal lure is dropped to a desired depth (usually to the bottom) and then retrieved with rhythmic movements to attract the attention of the predatory fish.
A normal reel or a reel can be used for jigging. The line is best braided because it has less stretch. The rods are generally shorter (less leverage and less tiring) and should allow good action to be given to the jig. There is an endless range of jigs: long blades, slow jigs, inchiku etc
The fish species that can be caught with vertical jigging are very varied. With vertical jigging we can catch fish such as wahoo, yellowfin tuna, blackfin tuna, skipjacks and mahi-mahi, queen snappers, jacks and groupers.
Jigging can be divided into two categories, namely jigging along the reef edges from 40 to 100 meters deep and (speed) jigging on underwater mountains and deep drop offs from 100 to 200 meters deep. The target species of this fishery are tuna (blackfin and yellowfin) and almaco and amberjack. By-catches include barracuda, wahoo, horse eye jack and various types of snappers
